Moving Your Pet

Hawaii Real Estate - Moving Your Pet Carefully planning must be made to insure minimal separation from our furry and feathered friends during a move to Hawaii. Hawaii is a rabies-free state, and has put precautions in place to prevent the disease from ever coming to its shores.

There are two quarantine programs new residents may follow for bringing pets with them to paradise. If certain conditions are met beginning 120 days before your arrival, you may arrange to have your pet picked up at the airport upon your arrival, or minimally after a five-day quarantine. This is the best solution for those who don't want to spend time away from their best friends. If you can't plan in advance the normal program calls for your pet to be placed in an approved quarantine facility for a minimum of 120 days.

The restrictions are carefully enforced, so it is important to follow the procedures exactly as specified by the State of Hawaii. For helpful brochures and checklists for both the short-term and full 120-day quarantine, please go to  Animal Quarantine Information.

Read everything carefully and feel free to call the state if you have any questions. Hawaii is a beautiful place for both people and pets, so it is important to heed the rabies quarantine instructions to the letter.
